Apple in Disguise Photo Manipulation
By admin | June 9, 2009
In this tutorial I will show you how to manipulate some photos of an apple and orange to make it look like the apple is wearing the orange as a mask.
First we need our materials:
Apple
Orange
Zipper
Fruit basket
Open up your apple image and also open your orange image.
For the apple cut it out so it has no white space around it and place it in the canvas above your apple.
You want to make the orange the same shape as the apple so take your opacity down to about 68% on the orange to see how it needs to be shaped around the apple.
Use the keyboard shortcut ctrl+t to transform the object, then right click on it and choose your warp tool

Use the warp tool to make it the same shape as the apple
I zoomed in a pulled the corners until I got it to the same shape all the way around
Here is my finished one
Open the zipper image and cut it out so it has no white space. Hide your orange layer and place your zipper in the document. Size it down so it fits over the apple like this.
I want the zipper opening to be bigger so cut off the left part of the zipper and place it a little wider
I left the other zipper in to show you where I moved it. Do the same to the other side
As you can see the zipper parts we just cut out need to go to the very top of the apple so just duplicate the zipper layers we just edited and place transform them so they look like one zipper
The only thing left with the zipper is to cut the part of the zipper that goes at the very bottom out and place it in the image.

And you should get something like this
Now unhide your orange layer. Now you want to cut the orange in half so we can make it look like it is being opened by the zipper. So hit ctrl+r to get your rulers tool out and drag a line that goes in the middle of the zipper
Take your rectangle marquee tool and cut the orange in half then place them back in their original position.
Use your warp tool again on each one to shape the orange layers behind each part of the zipper
Now for the final touch we need to add a light shadow under the zippers that are above the apple
I just used a large soft brush and painted the shadow on in a new layer behind the orange layers.
And here it is placed in a fruit basket
And that is all for this tutorial. Now you can zip anything!
